Using cloth pads for the first time after possibly years of using disposable products can be a daunting experience, especially when you may not even know where to begin. Here's our quick, handy guide to help you to get started.
Purchase pads that are of the correct absorbency for your needs.
When they arrive, give them a prewash on 30 degrees with a gentle detergent (without bleaches or softeners). This will increase their absorbency as the fabric will be brand new when you receive them (think about new towels, they don't dry you until you've given them a wash first!).
To put on a House of Callaway cloth pad, place the pad down on your underwear (the plain side without two lines of stitching in the centre) and do up the snaps around the back to fasten it on. This means that the absorbent side - the side with the two lines of stitching - is now against your skin. Top tip: wear snug fitting underwear to hold the pad securely in place.
When it's time to change, remove the pad and replace with a fresh one. Fold the soiled pad in half and place into a bag or container until you're ready to wash (just make sure the air can get to them to prevent odours). If you're out and about while using cloth pads, check out this post which explains how to store soiled pads while on the move.
Hopefully this has explained the basics of how cloth pads are used and taken away some of the anxiety that can surround trying something new. Remember, if you have any questions, you're always welcome to contact us in whichever way is easiest for you.
